Is Artificial Intelligence (AI) like ChatGPT the end of real estate agents as we know them?

Chat GPT has dominated the headlines in recent months as one of the most consumer used “generative language model”. If you haven’t used Chat GPT, it is a chat interface where you can ask Chat GPT to do certain things like: “write me a birthday invitation in the style of a British Lord inviting my friends to a party on August 15”.  Then, as if by magic, Chat GPT will regurgitate an invitation in that style. 

Chat GPT isn’t the first piece of technology to provoke speculation, fear, controversy or excitement. At one point, people talked about Zillow and iBuyers signaling the end of the traditional real estate agent model.

Here is something KALEO agents know: Chat GPT is a tool, but tools need wielding. Tools need a user who makes them functional. 

As a KALEO Real Estate Agent, we are confident of our value in the market. Selling a house or buying a house is a complex transaction and even typing the most sophisticated prompts into Chat GPT would not replicate what a KALEO real estate agent does.

A person can emphasize, guide, clarify, and lighten the mood in contentious negotiations. Chat GPT Is collecting data and producing responses based on given inputs. Chat GPT sees a typed prompt. KALEO agents see your body language, tone, and cadence as they sit across the table talking about selling your parent’s home. 

Unlike the Luddites of the 1800s, KALEO agents are not afraid of Chat GPT. In some ways, Chat GPT is an extreme version of products like Grammarly that cleans up writing for grammatical errors and clarity.
