This past week, our office Broker and General Manager were in Sacramento for the C.A.R. Business Meetings and Legislative Day at the Capitol. This means I got the inside scoop on all things California Real Estate. In California, there are real estate licensees, and then there are REALTORS®. REALTORS® are members of the local, state, and national associations of REALTORS® and adhere to a Code of Ethics and a higher standard of integrity in our business.
One of the key activities at the C.A.R. Business Meetings and Legislative Day is the lobbying for private property rights, homeownership, and housing. In California, several Propositions positively impact homeowners. For example, Prop 13 “limits a property owner’s general levy tax to 1 percent of the assessed value”* and Proposition 19 allows eligible California homeowners to transfer their property tax base from one property to another.**
I share this because, through my office, I am very aware of housing issues and factors that affect homeowners. If you are noticing something in your community that you feel needs attention, let me know! C.A.R. has long fought against point-of-sale requirements, which increase the burden on sellers (think retrofitting, electrification, government inspections, etc.). The REALTOR® Party is not aligned with any specific political party; we refer to ourselves as PURPLE because we are focused on finding bipartisan solutions.
Housing inventory shortages, affordability, and difficulty finding insurance — these are all challenges that Californians are experiencing. I want you to consider me a resource for all real estate-related questions. I have many connections both inside and outside the industry, including 1031 Exchange Accommodators, lenders, insurance brokers, general contractors, and vendors.
What real estate situation are you trying to navigate?
Here are some common scenarios that I can help you talk through to find a solution:
Selling a property that you inherited
Helping your adult children buy a multi-generational home
Selling an investment property and purchasing another income property
Purchasing your first home
Selling a vacation home (yes, we list homes in local resort communities like Big Bear, Palm Springs, and Lake Arrowhead!)
I love this industry because I enjoy helping people sell their homes, purchase homes, and navigate big decisions.
I’d love to hear from you: What do you think is the biggest issue facing California real estate right now? What do you feel needs more attention?
